SCIAS joins the Josep Carreras Foundation in the fight against the fight against leukaemia

An agreement will enable the development of awareness-raising and membership recruitment activities in the hospital. SCIAS thus reaffirms its commitment to medical research and the improvement of collective health.

20 November 2025

SCIAS Hospital de Barcelona has signed a collaboration agreement with the José Carreras Leukaemia Foundation to host a number of social awareness and support actions in its facilities. The initiative is part of SCIAS' firm commitment, as a healthcare co-operative, with medical research, corporate social responsibility and the development of a more humane and socially committed healthcare.

This agreement will enable the José Carreras Foundation to implement information campaigns within the hospital to raise awareness of haematological malignancies and encourage the public to get involved in their eradication.

"Social commitment is an essential part of our identity as a co-operative. We understand that our role is not limited to providing healthcare: we must also promote research, support causes which transform lives, and stand alongside those working for progress in medicine," stressed Andreu Obis, Chairman of the SCIAS Governing Board, during the signing ceremony of this new agreement.

Providing spaces for these campaigns

The Hospital de Barcelona will provide specific spaces for the implementation of these campaigns, always protecting the privacy and wellbeing of patients and professionals. The José Carreras Foundation will direct and supervise these activities and will deploy the operational coordination.

This agreement has an initial duration of one year and already includes three scheduled awareness-raising days, in October and December 2025 and in February 2026. It also includes the possibility of further new activities during this time, provided that all parties approve them.

With this collaboration, SCIAS Hospital de Barcelona bolsters its vocation of public service and its active role in promoting initiatives with social impact, reaffirming its role as an organisation committed to the environment, to community health and to the advancement of medicine within a cooperative and participatory approach.
