The cooperative movement at the service of social medicine
The COMB recognises the career of the general and digestive surgeon and coordinator of the emergency surgery team with the 2025 Professional Excellence Award in the hospital care category.
The Barcelona Medical Association (COMB) presented the awards for a new edition of the Professional Excellence Awards, which since 2004 have recognised doctors and teams who exemplify the essential values of the profession: commitment, honesty, altruism, integrity and excellence. In this edition, Dr Joan Borràs Marcet, a surgeon in the General and Digestive Surgery Department at Hospital de Barcelona, was honoured in the hospital care medicine category in recognition of his career and exemplary dedication.
Dr Borràs, who has been coordinating the centre's emergency surgery team for many years, has been a leading figure in the implementation of efficient and safe surgical protocols, as well as in the training of new professionals in the field of digestive surgery. His colleagues highlight his dedication to service, leadership skills and commitment to the continuous improvement of patient care, values that fully reflect the spirit of the award.
The Professional Excellence Awards ceremony also recognised other professionals and teams from different fields of medicine, such as research, teaching and healthcare management.
At Hospital de Barcelona, this recognition was met with great satisfaction and collective pride, as a testament to the talent, commitment and human qualities of the professionals who form part of the institution. Dr Borràs thus joins the list of doctors and teams from the centre who, over the years, have received this prestigious award from the COMB.
This meeting brought together more than 40 professionals from across all of the organisation's branches for a one-day seminar, a tour of the facilities and a chance to see the organisation's new services and products.
