On 7 November Hospital de Barcelona hosted the 13th Prenatal Health Conference, a meeting which has become a benchmark event in this field of medicine and which, on this occasion, will focus on the management of infections during pregnancy and the early diagnosis of breast cancer through breast milk.
Organised by Assistència Sanitària, in conjunction with Hospital de Barcelona Internal Medicine, Paediatrics and Neonatology services and specialists in Gynaecology and Obstetrics, the conference will take place in person and registration will be free. This event is aimed primarily at professionals in the fields of obstetrics, gynaecology, paediatrics, internal and family medicine, oncology, midwives, nursing staff and other related health disciplines.
Leading experts in maternal and child health and oncology
The session will be held in the hospital's assembly hall and will be attended by leading experts in the field of maternal and child health and oncology. The institutional opening will be attended by representatives of the management of Assistència Sanitària and Hospital de Barcelona, as well as Dr Sílvia Martínez, head of the Paediatrics and Neonatal Service.
Throughout the morning, the session will address timely and clinically relevant issues such as the need for screening for infections during pregnancy, the impact of cytomegalovirus (CMV) on pregnancy and the newborn child, and the risk posed by chorioamnionitis, an infection that can simultaneously jeopardize the life of both the mother and the baby. Recent advances will also be presented regarding the possibility of early detection of breast cancer through certain components of breast milk, with a presentation by the oncologist Cristina Saura.
This event, which is now in its thirteenth edition, reflects the commitment of Hospital de Barcelona and Assistència Sanitària to ongoing training, clinical excellence and the constant improvement of healthcare. The aim of the event is to provide a forum enabling multidisciplinary discussion, sharing knowledge and strengthening the coordination between different services, benefiting the health of pregnant women and their children.
