The Espriu Foundation proposes to the ICA that it be given more influence over international organisations in order to favour laws on cooperatives

The Espriu Foundation proposes to the International Co-operative Alliance (ICA) that its influence over international organisations be enhanced in order to favour laws on cooperatives. This was the suggestion by deputy director of the Espriu Foundation, Jose Pérez, during the meeting of the General Assembly of the Murcia Region Associated Work Cooperatives Union (Ucomur), which was attended by the President of the ICA, Ariel Guarco.

Pérez said it was “essential” for international organisations, as well as the governments of the various countries to be mindful of cooperatives when making decisions and putting regulations in place. In this respect, they demand “more policies that promote the key role of cooperatives in achieving greater social cohesion and reduced poverty levels and social exclusion”. 

100 million households worldwide have access to health services via cooperatives, and for this reason the Espriu Foundation sees it as “fundamental” that the World Health Organisation take this into account.

During his speech, Pérez said that “health cooperatives also aim to complement the National Health System to make it sustainable, in a scenario in which the ageing population will lead to increased costs and threaten the system.”
