Doctor Espriu's life had been devoted to social medice and to serving an idea that gradually took shape over the years: integral health co-operation. Three co-operatives have arisen out of his initiatives in this field.

A working co-operative for physicians in the province of Barcelona, Autogestió Sanitària Societat Cooperativa, which has over 5,000 members and is the owner of the medical insurance company Assistència Sanitària Col·legial, SA (ASC).

A consumer co-operative, Societat Cooperativa d'Instal·lacions Assistencials Sanitàries (SCIAS), which has over 170.000 medicine users in the province of Barcelona and is the owner of Hospital de Barcelona.

And a State-wide physicians  co-operative, Lavinia Sociedad Cooperativa, whith unites over 20.000 physicians and is the owner of the insurance company Asistencia Sanitaria Interprovincial, SA (ASISA).
